THE Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a 14-year-old girl identified as Mary, who allegedly attempted to poison her guardian in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Femi Joseph, who said men from the command have commenced investigation into the matter, explained that the young girl allegedly put rat poison in the food of her guardian, Alhaji Nasiru Akinlosotu, who discovered the poison on time before it could cause any havoc in his system.

A source close to the family informed Metro that the young girl said she decided to put the rat poison in Akinlosotu’s food because he was always maltreating her.

According to the source, Mary was asked to cook beans on the fateful day and after cooking the food, she sprinkled Akinlosotu’s food with rat poison.

The source, however said the man, after eating out of the food, noticed an unusual odour and inquired from the girl how the rat poison got into his food.

It was discovered that only the food dished for Akinlosotu contained the poison, while those dished to other family members were free of the poison.

Upon interrogation, Mary confessed putting the rat poison in the food, while the source said, “she stated that she decided to put poison in the man’s food in retaliation to the correction and complaints from the man.

After the confession, the man contacted his wife, Sikiratu, who reported the incident to the police at Yaba police station, while she tendered the poisonous food as evidence.
